New Home? Kitchen Design Tips That’ll Make You Happy

There’s nothing more exciting than FINALLY buying yourself a new house. It’s an achievement that most people want to tick off their bucket lists and to buy a house when you are self-employed? That’s often even more of an achievement because of the hoops you would have had to jump through. Getting a mortgage is tough, and if you want to be happy in your brand new home, you want the design of the rooms to reflect you and your sparkling personality. When was the last time you were able to upgrade your kitchen? If this is your first ever mortgage, this is likely to be the first time.

Whether you have achieved the Holy Grail of self employed mortgages or not, your kitchen is going to need your expert ideas and touch. You are in charge of how you want your house to look. If you’re self-employed, you may also have the freedom to make changes and renovate. And if you work from home, you may well be on hand to be able to supervise the work more closely, allowing you to make decisions on the spot when required. The kitchen matters in the house, which is why we’re going to talk about some of the tips that you need to make you feel happy about your kitchen.

Organize your project

A big tip for good kitchen design is in the fact that you need to be organized. Decluttering and gutting out the space once you move in will help. You need to organize it bit by bit so that you can get the design finished, or so your builders can – it’ll be so worth it when you do!

Get inspired

If you don’t like the way your current kitchen design looks, get online and flip through magazines so that you can find inspiration elsewhere. The chances are you knew you’d want to rip it out from looking around the house. From adding new colours and re-designing the layout, to putting up photos, you can really improve your kitchen design to feel happier about the space.

Add more light

If you want your kitchen to be a pleasant place to be, then you may benefit from adding more lighting. A simple change of the fixtures from the ceiling or adding undercounter worktop lights can make a huge difference to the way that you feel about your kitchen space. If you have the budget, widen up the window and increase its size or add a roof window in a kitchen extension. Both these options allow more natural light to flood through and brighten up the space.

Utilise space effectively

If your kitchen is small, maximise the space you have available by using as much vertical space as possible. Build cupboards up to the ceiling, add a fold-down breakfast bar to provide table space when you need it and have fold-down chairs or bar stools that slide under the counter when not in use. Try and keep the floor space as clean and tidy as possible to create the look of a bigger room.

Get crafty with storage

An organised kitchen is a functional one, so make sure you get crafty when it comes to adding in kitchen storage solutions. Pull out larders provide lots of storage space for all your food cupboard essentials and concertina-style opening cupboards ensure you get to use even the depths of the cupboard space you have. Ask your kitchen designer for tips on the best ways to make the most of the space you have.

Make it smell good

The kitchen is where you cook, but you need to feel happy the moment you walk into the room. Scented candles can be a wonderful addition to your space and you will feel much better than if the space smells musty or of lingering cooking smells.

Hire a cleaner

If you don’t have the time to keep on top of the maintenance of your new kitchen, hire a cleaner to help. When you’re using your kitchen regularly, it will inevitably get dirty. Make your kitchen a happy one by keeping it clean.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms of the home and all of these design tips will help you to keep it clean and tidy and keep you happy in the long run.
